Dogfish can be found in the North East waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
They are typically found in inshore waters, near the shore and in estuaries, but also can be found in offshore waters.
STRUCTURE/HABITAT
Dogfish are typically found in sandy and muddy bottoms, often around natural structures such as underwater canyons, shipwrecks and artificial reefs.
They are also known to congregate around man-made structures such as jetties, piers, and buoys. Typically found in waters less than 100 feet deep.

During the summer, Dogfish can be caught in the North East of the US waters as they are abundant in inshore waters.

Techniques
Bottom Fishing
How: Dogfish will take almost any kind of bait, but mackerel, herring, and squid are some of the most effective. Use a bottom rig or a fishfinder rig with a long leader to help keep the bait off the bottom.
Gear: Rods: 7-8 ft medium-heavy spinning rods. Reels: Spinning reels with line capacity of 250-300 yds of 20-30 lb test. Hooks: 5/0-7/0 circle hooks. Rigs: Bottom or fishfinder rigs with sinkers ranging from 2-6 oz.
