Speckled Trout are often found in brackish or saltwater estuaries and bays, they are also commonly found in freshwater rivers and creeks.
They can be found in a variety of habitats such as oyster beds, marshes, and grass beds. They are also found around natural structures such as jetties, inlets and man-made structures such as bridge pilings and dock pilings. ​
